At the same time that most Mass folks were voting against George W. Bush in the 2004 elections, another question was put forth on the ballot: Should marijuana be decriminalized? If the legislation proposed on the ballot was carried out, possession of small amounts of the drug, less than one oz, would become a civil offense, subject to a $100 maximum fine, like an expensive parking ticket.

So far, nothing has come of the vote. Thanks to the Drug Policy Forum of Massachusetts.
